President William Ruto shared a light moment with a Manchester United supporter during a public engagement, joking about the club’s struggles while declaring his loyalty to Arsenal.

Engaging a fan who was wearing a Manchester United jersey, the President struck a playful tone.

“How are you? What is your name? I see you are a Manchester United fan,” Ruto said.

“Where is Man United currently? The other day, I saw they were not doing well. Don’t say much because I’m an Arsenal fan.”

The supporter, who identified himself as Brian Atuti, responded confidently, pledging unwavering loyalty to the English club despite its mixed performances.

“I am Brian Atuti. I’m Manchester United forever,” he said.

“The other day we beat Arsenal. The only person I knew who was an Arsenal fan was Baba,” he added, referring to former Prime Minister Raila Odinga.

The exchange drew laughter from the crowd, with the President joining in the laughter as well.

The President was speaking during a visit to Kisii, where he launched the NYOTA programme on Thursday.

He said the country is moving decisively from words to action by translating promises into reality and giving practical expression to its commitment to youth empowerment.

According to the President, the approach goes beyond the provision of capital by creating sustainable pathways to employment and entrepreneurship through targeted interventions in labour mobility, the digital and creative economy, and the Affordable Housing Programme.

“We shall neither relent nor grow weary. We will not stop until every Kenyan youth is given a fair opportunity to unlock, develop, and realise their full potential,” he said.

Ruto was in Kisii County to launch the Nyota Start-up Capital disbursement for Nyamira, Migori, and Kisii counties, where 8,820 young Kenyans received their first tranche of funding, marking the beginning of their entrepreneurial journeys.

He said Kisii would not be transformed by rhetoric but through development projects and programmes.

“We are working with progressive leaders in the region, led by Governor Simba Arati, to change the county and improve people’s lives. We have invested Sh33 billion in the construction of affordable houses, modern markets, and hostels, Sh7 billion in the upgrading of roads, and more than Sh400 million in the modernisation of the Suneka Airport,” he said.

“We will also upgrade and expand the Gusii Stadium to international standards to nurture sports in the area. We have broken ground for the construction of the Sh350 million Nyambera Modern Market, which will be ready later in the year and will host more than 1,000 traders in Kisii.”
