And police are investigating the recovery of an AK-47 rifle with three bullets from a makeshift along Alikune-Dagahaley Road in Garissa County.

Two suspects were arrested over the recovery and were under interrogation. The recovery happened following a shooting incident that happened on January 16 and January 25, 2026, in the area.

The two were arrested within Ifo Refugee Camp and had buried the weapon in a shallow hole. It was wrapped in a jacket and stashed in a gunny bag then. Police said they were looking for a third suspect in the saga and that the weapon was sent for ballistic tests.

This will, among other things, enable the investigators to know if the weapon had been used in any crime in the country.
