
A senior police officer surrendered his official pistol after he was linked to an incident where two men were shot and wounded in a brawl at a club in Kitengela, Kajiado County.
The officer is based at the Directorate of Criminal Investigations headquarters.
He is said to have been present at the bar when the shooting happened on Sunday dawn.
It is not clear what he has told investigators.
The team handling the case said the officer surrendered the weapon for ballistic tests to establish if it was involved in the shooting.
Witnesses said he used his pistol to shoot at the two men in a confrontation.
About six cartridges were recovered at the scene and also sent for tests.
The officer was also grilled on Monday when he surrendered the weapon, police said adding he denied the claims.
It is not clear what prompted the confrontation and subsequent shooting at about 2 am on Sunday January 25.
One of the victims remained in the ICU on Wednesday as the investigations continued while the second one was said to be improving but also in critical condition. They were both shot in the stomach.
Police revisited the scene on Sunday and recovered six more spent cartridges and a bullet head.
The shooting emanated from the club and extended to the nearby Acacia Road where three of the spent cartridges were recovered, police said.
One of the injured victims was found lying on the roadside with a bullet wound in the lower abdomen and police said on Monday he was in a stable but serious condition in hospital.
The owner of the club and his guard were arrested for grilling over the shooting.
The team retrieved security footage that captured the drama for analysis as part of their probe.
Witnesses said they saw the gunman confront the victims from the bar to the main entrance.
A security camera on the neigbouring structure captured other revealers escape the scene for their safety as the shooting ensued.Police said they plan to press charges after their investigations are complete.
Such dramas have been common in emerging clubs in estates amid calls for regulation of the establishments, which are also blamed for noise pollution.
Residents have been calling on the county governments to regulate the clubs especially in estates which are a nuisance.
