President William Ruto chairs the UDA National Governing Council, State House, Nairobi on January 26, 2026 / PCSPresident William Ruto has dismissed criticism that his administration has failed to deliver on its campaign promises, saying the Kenya Kwanza government has achieved 80 per cent of its manifesto commitments.
The President said the government has stabilized the economy and placed agriculture on a stronger production footing.
Speaking on Monday when he chaired the UDA National Governing Council meeting at State House Nairobi, Ruto cited fertiliser distribution as a key intervention aimed at boosting crop yields, increasing food security, and lowering the cost of food over time.
“There is a lot of propaganda and idle talk in Kenya and on social media. They are saying that no work has been done. They have said that we lied to Kenyans. However, today we are standing here so that those who said that we lied should be ashamed of themselves.”
“As we speak, we have eight million bags of fertiliser ahead of the long rains. Farmers can now start planting until April,” he said.
Ruto added that 10.1 million bags of fertiliser were used last year and projected that usage will rise to 12.5 million bags this year. Of that quantity, he said, three million bags have already been stocked, while another three million are in transit through Mombasa.”
Ruto said the government’s focus remains on economic reforms, agricultural productivity, and wider development programmes that formed the core of the Kenya Kwanza campaign agenda during the 2022 elections.
“We plan to use eight million bags in the long rains. Our commitment to making sure that we transform Kenya is solid, and it is on a solid foundation," the President said.
"Our commitment to moving Kenya to a first-world economy is on a solid foundation. We challenge our competition to present their scorecard and disclose to Kenyans what better plan they have in making our country better."
Ruto said that in the 2022 UDA manifesto, the government made a commitment to the people of Kenya to transform the country and their lives by investing in agriculture, making affordable credit accessible, creating millions of jobs, and implementing universal healthcare, among others.
"We are pleased we have been faithful, page by page, chapter by chapter, in the delivery of this contract with Kenyans. We undertake to work with other leaders and political parties in building a more cohesive, more united and more transformed Kenya," he added.
He said that during the meeting, the leaders were updated on the progress the party has made in the implementation of the manifesto.
"We are building powerful national political parties whose philosophy, vision and understanding go beyond generations. UDA’s coalition with ODM guarantees our resounding victory in 2027, providing another opportunity to continue implementing transformative programmes and policies for our country."
