Prime Cabinet Secretary and Cabinet Secretary for Foreign and Diaspora Affairs Musalia Mudavadi speaking during UDA National Governing Council meeting at State House on January 26, 2026 / OPCS

Prime Cabinet Secretary and Cabinet Secretary for Foreign and Diaspora Affairs Musalia Mudavadi has warned elected UDA leaders to brace for tough competition ahead of the 2027 General Elections.

The PCS said thousands of aspirants have started submitting applications for governor, MP, MCA, woman representative, and senator positions for the party ticket.

Speaking at State House, Nairob on Monday, during a United Democratic Alliance (UDA) National Governing Council meeting convened by the UDA Party leader President William Ruto, Mudavadi said 640 Kenyans have so far expressed interest in the Member of Parliament positions (National Assembly), 64 for Governor, 98 for Senate, 138 for Women Representative, and 2,863 for MCA positions through the UDA ticket.

“By today a total of 3,803 Kenyans have expressed interest and the party portal is still open. Most likely this number will rise to a double digit or even triple when we convene here at the State House for the Aspirants forum in a couple of weeks. If any one of you thought that there is no competition, statistics are showing there is stiff competition for the UDA ticket,” Mudavadi said.

The Prime CS said on February 4, 2026, the party has scheduled an important forum where its organs and leadership will engage those who have since expressed interest to contest for the UDA ticket ahead of the August 2027 general election.

“I want to use the MCAs position as a good example, and elected MCAs must push from the wards since competition down there is not a joke. From this data, you cannot afford to lie low as an envelope when the party polling centre elections take place in March this year. These numbers clearly mean competition, and the aspirants who have already shown interest are going to mobilise their campaign teams to be elected at those polling centres,” he said.

“You have no option but to go back to the polling centres and mobilise thoroughly so that you get more people registered under UDA and have a team that will win. That is what will give you an advantage over your competitors. If you don’t it be rest assured your opponent is doing it and they might have that advantage.”

The Prime CS also emphasized the critical undertaking by the leaders present to continue supporting President Ruto’s administration, saying the PLAN under his leadership is steadily bearing fruits.

Mudavadi, also the Cabinet Secretary for Foreign and Diaspora Affairs, said President Ruto’s leadership has equally placed Kenya on the global map as an anchor State in diplomacy and international relations.

He said this has helped position Kenya as a regional business and investment hub, a trusted mediator and supporter for both regional and global peace and security initiatives, a stable economy, and a nation that believes and respects the tenets of the constitution and abides by the rule of law.

“This year alone we will be hosting a number of international conferences including the Africa-France Summit in May and many others courtesy of the leadership of our President,” Mudavadi noted.

President Ruto on his side said the ruling party is keen on broadening its political base to unite the country and consolidate gains made under the broad-based government.

He has declared that he is targeting a decisive victory in the 2027 General Election, saying he wants to win by a margin of between two and three million votes through a possible coalition with the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM).

He added that the broad-based government arrangement with ODM has worked, praising key leaders for their performance in government.

“In the coming election, we want to win by a margin of between 2 and 3 million so that we unite the country and walk together. In the last election, we won by a margin of 200,000. There’s justification for us to consolidate the country into one,” Ruto said.
