Nyeri County Governor Mutahi Kahiga today lauded environmental advocate Truphena Muthoni after Guinness World Records officially confirmed her 72-hour marathon hugging a tree—the longest ever recorded.
The recognition also underscored her rising influence in climate advocacy and conservation.
Kahiga welcomed Muthoni to his office in Nyeri for a courtesy visit, marking their third meeting since her historic feat captured national attention and inspired conversations on environmental protection.
The governor said the county government is proud of Muthoni’s achievement, which has spotlighted Nyeri County on the global stage.

Kahiga also congratulated her on her recent appointment by President William Samoei Ruto as ambassador for the 15 Billion Tree Planting Campaign, a flagship national initiative aimed at combating climate change through forest restoration.
Muthoni’s world-record performance, which took place between December 8 and 11, 2025, involved hugging an indigenous tree for 72 continuous hours outside the Nyeri Governor’s office — surpassing her own previous record of 48 hours set earlier in the year.
