The United Democratic Alliance (UDA) has opened an online registration portal for party members seeking to contest various elective seats in the 2027 General Election.

In a notice issued by the party’s National Elections Board (NEB) dated January 22, the ruling party has invited all qualified and interested members to register as participants in the UDA Aspirants’ Forum, a key organ that will guide the party’s nomination process ahead of the next general election.

The registration portal, accessible via https://aspirants-forum.uda.ke/, will allow aspirants to enrol for the forum, which is mandated to deliberate on and implement mechanisms for conducting free, fair and transparent party nominations.

According to the fee schedule, aspirants for the position of Member of County Assembly (MCA) will pay Sh2,000.

Those seeking to contest for Member of the National Assembly, Woman Representative or Senator will each pay Sh5,000, while gubernatorial aspirants will pay Sh10,000.

All qualified and interested party members who wish to contest for various elective seats in the 2027 General Election are hereby invited to register as members of the UDA Aspirants’ Forum,” the notice issued buy NEB Chairman Anthony Mwaura reads in part.

The meeting to be chaired by President William Ruto at State House marks a calculated political move aimed at tightening control over the ruling party’s nomination process while managing rising internal competition.

The opening of the portal formally ushers in early jockeying for party positions across the country.

UDA said the Aspirants’ Forum will play a central role in shaping the party’s nomination roadmap, including setting out rules of engagement, dispute resolution mechanisms and principles to ensure credible, transparent and inclusive nominations across the country.

The high-level meeting is expected to bring together thousands of aspirants from across the country and will serve as the first major formal engagement between the party leadership and those seeking UDA tickets for the 2027 polls.

The timing of the forum, to be held at State House, underscores the party’s intention to centrally coordinate its nomination process early and avoid the chaos and disputes that have characterised party primaries in previous election cycles.

Payments for registration can be made via M-Pesa using Paybill number 888092, with aspirants required to use their national identification number as the account reference, Mwaura said.

Alternatively, payments can be made through Equity Bank Account Number 0810280788414 at the Supreme Centre Branch, under the name United Democratic Alliance.

Mwaura, who reaffirmed the board’s commitment to overseeing a transparent and credible nomination process.

By convening aspirants at State House, Ruto is positioning himself at the centre of the nomination conversation, long before campaigns officially begin.

At its core, the State House forum is about discipline and message control.

Party primaries have historically been a major source of division, defections and post-election court battles, often weakening dominant parties ahead of general elections.

For UDA, which controls both national and county-level seats in many regions, managing expectations early is seen as critical to preserving unity.

Political insiders say the meeting will be used to spell out nomination rules, timelines and dispute resolution mechanisms, while also issuing a clear warning against premature campaigns, parallel mobilisation structures and public infighting that could damage the party’s image.

The choice of State House as the venue is equally symbolic.

It elevates the forum beyond a routine party meeting and signals that the nomination process is a strategic priority for the presidency itself.

Ruto is also expected to use the forum to take the political temperature across regions, particularly in areas where multiple strong aspirants are lining up for the same seats.

Early engagement allows the party leadership to identify flashpoints, manage rivalries and, where possible, encourage consensus-building before competition escalates.

Another key objective is loyalty management.

With UDA hosting both incumbents and ambitious newcomers, the party faces the delicate task of balancing renewal with political survival.

By bringing aspirants together under one roof, the leadership can reinforce party ideology, reaffirm loyalty expectations and discourage rebellion by those who may feel sidelined.

The forum also comes at a time when coalition politics remain fluid, with opposition realignments and internal negotiations quietly taking shape.

Ensuring that UDA’s nomination machinery is orderly and predictable gives the party an advantage as it positions itself as the most stable political vehicle heading into 2027.

Additionally, the aspirants’ meeting provides Ruto an opportunity to project authority over a party that has rapidly expanded since coming to power.

For aspirants, the State House meeting is expected to offer clarity on what the party expects, financially, politically and organisationally, in exchange for the ticket.
