A man was fatally by a falling tree in a village in Mosocho, Kisii county, police have said.

Police said his friend and colleague was injured in the January 20 incident in Nyamondo village.

The two men were cutting a eucalyptus tree when it accidentally fell on them killing Wilson Makori, 44.

The colleague suffered bad injuries on his hand.

He was rushed to a local hospital for specialised treatment and Makori’s body was moved to the mortuary pending other procedures.

Police said they are investigating the accident.

In Ekerenyo village, Nyamira county, a man was found dead in a maize plantation.

The body of Samuel Ogwankwa, 50, had multiple injuries in the belly.

The motive of the murder was not immediately established, but police moved the body to the mortuary for postmortem.

In Masara, Migori county, a man was killed by an explosion at a mining site. The owners of the site were arrested following the incident, police said.

The deceased, Tom Mboya, and others were allegedly using explosive devices to mine gold at the site.

The body was moved to the mortuary pending postmortem.

Meanwhile, police in Mutuati, Meru county are investigating the fatal shooting of a man whose body was found on the roadside.

The incident happened on January 20 in the Kuka area. The deceased was identified as Ambrose Murithi, 38, and his body was found with a gunshot wound in the left ear with an exit on the forehead. The motive of the murder was not established.

Residents told police he had been called by an unknown person and when he got out of the house, he was picked up by a motorcycle. The body was moved to the mortuary pending postmortem.

Police in Bomet are investigating the murder of a 23-year-old man.

Victor Kipkoech’s body was found near Bomet University and moved to the local hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The police said they are investigating his murder as the body was moved to the mortuary.
