Gatanga man kidnapped, killed, body dumped in Juja

Detectives are investigating an incident where a 63-year-old man was kidnapped from Gatanga, Muranga county before his body was dumped in Juja, Kiambu county.

Police said they are yet to establish the motive and those behind the kidnapping and murder of Bernard Karehu.

He was shot at close range in the chest below the right upper arm and his body dumped in Abbasalama.

Gatanga residents had reported that Karehu was kidnapped by unknown people on Sunday January 18 in the morning.

Police who visited the scene said the man’s t-shirt had bloodstains and that the victim was dumped at the scene after murder.

The body was moved to the mortuary pending postmortem.

No arrest had been made by Monday even as police said they are pursuing leads into the same.

A team of detectives revisited the scene where the body was found and where he was picked up from as part of investigations into the murder.

They talked to his relatives to establish if he had a grudge with anyone that may have led to the kidnap and murder.

In Kibwezi, Makueni county, police are investigating the death of a 94-year-old woman.

Susan Mailu was found dead in her compound, where she lived alone.

Neighbours said they had not seen her for days and were disturbed by a foul smell from the home.

When they went to check, they found the body had been partially mauled by dogs. It is not clear what caused the death and when, police said as they moved the body to the mortuary for postmortem and other procedures.

Police said they are trying to establish if the woman was murdered at the scene.

In Riruta, Nairobi, tenants of an apartment were shocked to find the body of a man in a well in a suspected suicide.

John Ngugi, 27, had been missing for four days.

Tenants were disturbed by a bad smell from the well and went to check when they found his body floating before retrieving it.

Police said they recovered a suicide note near the scene and it is being analysed to establish if he is the one who authored it.

The body was moved to the mortuary pending postmortem.
