Detectives are investigating the fatal shooting of a Kenyan man who was found dead after he had been shot at the main Kenya-Somalia border in Mandera.

The body of Abdifatah Mohamed Maalim, 31, was found lying in a trench with a gunshot wound in the back.

Blood was oozing from his mouth and ears when the body was found on January 15, police said.

Police said preliminary indications show the man was shot by members of the Somalia National Army also deployed in the area.

It is not clear what prompted the shooting.

The incident caused tension in the area as authorities assured the locals that they would investigate it for action.

An autopsy on the body revealed he died from loss of blood caused by the shooting.

The body was released to his relatives for burial, pending investigations.

There has been rising tension in the area between Kenyan security officials and the security agencies in neighbouring Somalia.

The agencies are also facing hostilities from gangs in the Bullahawa area, which is neighbouring Mandera Town.

A day earlier, two members of the National Police Reserve were killed by an Improvised Explosive Device that had been set by rogue members of the agencies, officials said, adding investigations were ongoing to identify those behind the incident.

Two others were injured in the incident. Police said they recovered and detonated another explosive in the area.

The area has been experiencing instability from infighting between the Somalia security agencies and al Shabaab terror group.

Somalia has not had an effective central government since the 1991 overthrow of President Siad Barre's military regime, which ushered in more than two decades of anarchy and conflict in a country deeply divided along clan lines.

Kenya launched Operation Linda Nchi on October 14, 2011, after gunmen seized tourists at the Coast, which the Government saw as a threat to the country's sovereignty, as it targeted the nation's economic lifeline, which is tourism.

Elsewhere in Funyula, Busia County, a man was found dead in an abandoned quarry behind their house.

Police identified the deceased as Francis Ojiambo Momala, 73. His body had a deep cut on the head and a bruised left knee.

The man had come to the area for a funeral vigil when he was murdered.

The motive of the murder was not established following the discovery of the body on January 15, police said as they moved it to the mortuary pending an autopsy.

And police arrested a suspect over a murder incident in Marafa area, Kilifi County.

The suspect was taken to the station by his father following the murder of one Charles Charo, 50 on Wednesday night at a joint in an altercation.

Police said the suspect will face murder charges.
