
A gold dealer was shot dead during a robbery incident in Kehancha, Migori County, police said.
According to police, the incident occurred on the night of January 15, 2026, and involved a 23-year-old Tanzanian national identified as Leonard Lucas Mabina.
Officers said the man was engaged in gold trading activities in both Kenya and Tanzania.
Police reported that the victim was attacked at his residence by a group of four armed assailants who demanded cash and valuables.
A confrontation followed, during which the attackers opened fire, killing him at the scene. Police said he sustained gunshot injuries at close range.
The assailants reportedly escaped with an unspecified amount of money and gold, fleeing the scene on a motorcycle toward the nearby Kenya–Tanzania border.
Police described the area as close to the porous frontier.
Officers later visited the scene and moved the body to a mortuary, where a post-mortem examination is expected to be conducted as part of ongoing investigations.
Police noted that there have been recent reports of robberies targeting individuals involved in gold trading in the region, a trend they said is under investigation.
In a separate incident in Ntharene, Imenti, Meru County, an 83-year-old man died after sustaining head injuries during a disturbance.
Police said the man was struck by a stone while attempting to intervene in a fight involving two women. He later died while receiving treatment in hospital.
Police said a suspect has been arrested in connection with the incident and investigations are ongoing. The body was moved to a mortuary pending an autopsy.
Meanwhile, in Mutuati, Meru County, a suspect died after being assaulted by members of the public following an alleged violent incident.
Police said the man is suspected to have attacked his parents and sister using a panga, injuring them, and later assaulted several people who responded to the scene.
According to police, the suspect was subsequently confronted by a mob and fatally injured. His body was taken to a mortuary, while six injured people were taken to hospital for treatment.
Police said investigations into the incident are ongoing and reiterated calls for members of the public to avoid mob justice, warning that lynching is a criminal offence.
