A man surrendered to the Mwitika police post in Zombe, Kitui County, on Wednesday, saying he had killed a woman.

He arrived at the station carrying a panga reportedly stained with blood and told officers the incident occurred in Kikuu village, police said.

The man’s arrival caused a brief panic at the post as the few officers on duty moved to detain him.

Police later visited the scene and found the body of Elizabeth Kala, 50, in a pool of blood in her compound.

Officers said the body had multiple injuries and that the head had been separated from the torso.

The suspect was disarmed and taken into custody pending arraignment.

Police said he will undergo psychiatric evaluation before being presented in court.

The motive for the killing has not been established. The body was moved to the mortuary pending an autopsy.

In Marafa, Magarini, Kilifi County, a 50-year-old man died following an altercation at a local joint.

Police identified the victim as Charles Charo Baya and said he was struck on the head with a club during the incident on January 14.

He died at the scene, police added.

In Macalder, Migori County, police found a man’s body abandoned in a thicket.

Authorities said the body showed injuries to the head and believe the person may have been killed elsewhere before being dumped at the scene.

A suspect was arrested in Nairobi’s Kamkunji area in connection with the murder of 38-year-old Ignatius Mwangi in Murang’a County, police said.
