BFK Secretary General David Munuhe/FILE The Boxing Federation of Kenya (BFK) has released its comprehensive calendar of events for the 2026 National Boxing League, outlining a busy schedule of national and international competitions set to showcase talent across the country.
The federation, affiliated to WBA, IBA, AFBC, NOCK, and KNSC, announced the lineup of tournaments that will involve participants from all counties, including novices, intermediates, and elite athletes.
Speaking on the ambitious programme, BFK Secretary General David Munuhe said, “We are excited to launch a calendar that will elevate Kenyan boxing to new heights and give our athletes ample opportunities to shine on both national and international stages.”
The 2026 season kicks off with the National Novices event from February 5–7 in Nairobi, hosted by the National Council of Boxing Associations (NCBA).
Munuhe added, “The National Novices competition is crucial for discovering fresh talent and nurturing young boxers who will represent Kenya in future global events. ”Key highlights include the Women's World Boxing Championships and World Boxing Cup qualifiers, with teams preparing to compete in Brazil, China, and other global venues.“
Our women’s programme is gaining momentum, and we expect the upcoming World Boxing Championships to showcase their skill and determination,” Munuhe remarked. The federation has also scheduled anti-doping seminars and youth-focused events, emphasising development and fair play.
“We are committed to clean sport, which is why anti-doping education is integral to every leg of our league,” he stated.
Regional championships such as the Zone 3 Africa Boxing Championships and the Men’s World Boxing Championships will be held in various venues, including Vihiga and Nairobi. M
unuhe noted: “Participating in Zone 3 and global events will give our boxers invaluable experience and exposure.”
The calendar also features school-based competitions for boys, girls, juniors, and youth, organised during school closures.
“Engaging young athletes in boxing promotes discipline and physical fitness, which are essential for their overall development,” Munuhe explained. The BFK president, Anthony O. Ombok, will oversee the implementation of the calendar, while participation fees are set at Ksh 2,000.
Munuhe concluded, “We urge all counties and athletes to take advantage of these events, and we promise transparent management and support from the federation to ensure successful competitions.”
The full schedule is subject to revisions, with notifications to be issued by the BFK secretary general in case of changes, ensuring compliance with WB and IBA technical rules.
