Kenyan football fans are in for a treat this Sunday as Shabana FC host record champions Gor Mahia at Gusii Stadium in what promises to be a thrilling Kenyan Premier League encounter. Kick-off is scheduled for 2 pm, with both teams eyeing crucial points as the season enters a decisive phase.
Gor Mahia are second on the league table with 26 points, just one behind AFC Leopards. Shabana are fifth with 23 points, making this clash significant for both sides’ aspirations.

Their last meeting at Gusii Stadium ended in a narrow 1-0 victory for Gor Mahia, and Shabana will be eager to overturn that result in front of their home fans.

Shabana head coach Peter Okidi expressed optimism ahead of the game, highlighting the importance of home advantage.

“We know Gor Mahia are a top side with quality in every department. Our focus is to control the game from the first whistle and show our fans that we can compete at this level,” Okidi said.

He added that his players had trained hard during the week and would approach the match tactically, emphasising discipline and intensity as key to success.

“Every match counts. Winning here could propel us closer to the top four and give the team confidence moving forward,” he added.

On the other side, Gor Mahia coach Charles Akonnor stressed that his team is focused on extending their unbeaten run and closing the gap on league leaders.

“We are aware of Shabana’s strengths and will approach the game with caution, but we are here to win. Every point matters in the title race,” Akonnor said.

He emphasised tactical discipline, squad rotation, and mental strength, noting that moments in the match would define the outcome.
