A multi-agency team led by the National Authority for the Campaign Against Alcohol and Drug Abuse (NACADA) raided a residential complex in Emali Town, dismantling an unlicensed brewing site and seizing over 5,000 litres of unregulated alcohol.
The operation resulted in one arrest and came shortly after President William Ruto convened a strategy meeting at the State House, highlighting substance abuse as a national development and security concern.
Speaking at the scene, NACADA Chief Executive Officer Anthony Omerikwa emphasised that the Authority is intensifying its efforts to suppress illicit alcohol production and distribution.
“NACADA is leading a coordinated national response to address this issue,” Omerikwa said.
“Individuals involved in these activities should be aware that we are committed to enforcing the law and pursuing all legal avenues, including asset recovery, against those found to be involved in illegal alcohol operations.”
Omerikwa added that the crackdown will now extend beyond arrests to include the seizure of properties suspected to be acquired through proceeds of illicit alcohol trade.

The Emali raid revealed an unlicensed bar operating within a housing complex.
NACADA credited members of the public for providing information that contributed to the operation’s success.
During the operation, officials identified production processes involving potentially unsafe substances, which could pose health risks to consumers.
NACADA emphasised that the use of industrial ingredients in alcohol production is illegal and unsafe.
The Authority has urged anyone with information on illicit alcohol activities to report it confidentially via its 24-hour tip line, 1192, as part of ongoing national efforts to curb illegal alcohol production and distribution.
