In a memorial message published in the Daily Nation, the family said the overwhelming support from Kenyans at home and abroad helped them endure a moment of profound grief and turned Raila’s final journey into a dignified celebration of his life and legacy.

“As we remember Baba on his birthday, we would like to sincerely thank the people of Kenya for standing with us during this profoundly painful time,” the family said.

They thanked President William Ruto, Deputy President Kithure Kindiki, Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi, Chief Justice Martha Koome and the entire government for facilitating what they described as a respectful and well-coordinated send-off.

“We appreciate the outstanding support, understanding and kindness extended to us by the leadership and institutions of the Republic of Kenya,” the message read.

The family also acknowledged the various funeral committees and Kenyans who turned out in large numbers to pay their last respects.

Special appreciation was extended to Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the government of India for their role in facilitating the repatriation of Raila’s body to Kenya.

“Your personal involvement ensured Baba was brought home swiftly and with dignity,” the family said.

They further thanked regional and international leaders who attended the funeral or sent messages of condolence, saying their presence and gestures meant the world to them.

Among those mentioned were former presidents Uhuru Kenyatta, Olusegun Obasanjo of Nigeria, Nana Akufo-Addo of Ghana, Jakaya Kikwete of Tanzania and African Development Bank president Akinwumi Adesina.

At the county level, the family singled out Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja, Kisumu Governor Anyang’ Nyong’o, Siaya Governor James Orengo and Homa Bay Governor Gladys Wanga for their support in organising events during what they described as extremely challenging circumstances.

They also recognised the Senate and National Assembly, the Attorney General’s office, the diplomatic corps, the media and the ODM Party fraternity for standing with them and honouring Raila’s contribution to the nation.

In a personal note, the family thanked medical teams in Kenya and India for their care and compassion, saying their professionalism and dedication would not be forgotten.

“To the people of Kenya, thank you for the love and honour you showed Baba in life and in death. It gives us peace to know how deeply his life touched so many,” the family said.

As Kenyans marked Raila’s posthumous 81st birthday, the family said his legacy lives on in the values he championed, turning the day into a moment of remembrance, gratitude and quiet celebration of a life devoted to the country.
