Entertainer and podcaster Dr Ofweneke is calling for fervent prayers for women involved with married men, popularly known as ‘side chicks’, suggesting they are facing a particularly difficult time this January.
According to the podcaster, the start of the year has not been kind to those in such unconventional relationships. He suggests that many of these women are currently struggling to keep their heads above water and are facing significant distress.

A Struggle for Survival
The podcaster noted that the life of a mistress is far from glamorous during this season. He remarked that these women are currently "not breathing fine" and are not okay. He emphasised that the situation they find themselves in is "not easy."
"In anything that you do, please let’s remember side chicks in prayers. It is not easy. It is not easy being a side chick... they're not doing well. They're not breathing fine. They're not okay."

According to Ofweneke, side chicks have had a rough period dealing with their ‘sponsors’ who spent most of their time with their families during the December festivities, hence depriving them of the much-needed attention.
The February Deadline
The podcaster has set a specific timeline for when he expects these struggles to reach a turning point. He pointed towards 15 February as a critical date.
He added that this will continue for the whole of January, and the earliest they will get full attention from their ‘wababaz’ is after Valentine’s Day in February.

“They were denied attention the whole of December, and now the whole of January they’re being denied money by their sponsors… now let’s meet on February 5th,” he said.
He also advised side chicks to seize that opportunity well and ask for meaningful things from these sponsors once they reunite with them after Valentine’s Day.
“He had deprived you of attention and money since December, now ask him to buy you land, something must pay. You cannot be a side chick to a poor man.”
Dr Ofweneke is a well-known Kenyan comedian, MC, and songwriter. He is famous for his Nigerian accent and his role as a talk show host, where he often discusses relationship dynamics.
In Kenya, January is frequently referred to as "Njaanuary" (from the Swahili word 'Njaa', meaning hunger) because many people struggle financially after the heavy spending of the December holidays.
