Kenyan scriptwriter and storyteller Abel Mutua, popularly known as ‘Mkurugenzi’, has captured the hearts of fans with a unique milestone in his parenting journey.
To mark his daughter Stephanie Mumbua’s 16th birthday, Mutua fulfilled a long-standing promise by giving her her first driving lesson.
The celebrated filmmaker chose this significant age to empower his only child with a vital life skill. Short video clips shared on social media by his wife, Judy Nyawira, showed a focused Mumbus behind the wheel, navigating a quiet road under her father's careful guidance.

A Promised Fulfilled
The decision to start driving lessons exactly at 16 was not a random choice. According to the clips shared, it was a birthday highlight that had been planned.
"This was the highlight of her birthday today. Daddy had promised her her first driving lesson once she turned 16... and he delivered," Judy Nyawira shared in a caption on the video.
The moment was captured vividly from the back seat, where Judy recorded the interaction between father and daughter. The atmosphere in the car was one of calm instruction and visible excitement.
Behind the Wheel: Lessons in Patience
In the footage, Mutua is seen calmly directing Mumbus on how to handle the vehicle’s controls. He guided her through the delicate process of moving and stopping.
"So now we ease and put the brake... pole pole, pole pole," Mutua is heard saying as he coached her on speed control. He then instructed her on the proper sequence for parking, saying, "Put it on neutral... then you put the thing [handbrake] up.”

The video also featured a humorous exchange when Mumbus successfully parked the car.

Mumbus: "I did so well, guys! Where’s my license?"
Judy, watching from the back, praised her husband's teaching style. "Daddy is such a good teacher! Ingekuwa mimi..." she wrote, implying she might not have had the same level of patience.
Milestone Parenting
The 16th birthday marks a new chapter for Mumbus, who recently transitioned to High School. Her parents, who have been open about their journey since her birth during their college years, continue to share these relatable "Family Convos" with their large online audience.
The lesson concluded with high spirits, with Mumbus expressing her joy at completing her first official session.
