Traffic on Waiyaki Way was briefly disrupted after four vehicles were involved in multiple rear end collision along Waiyaki Way at Lion's Place on Monday morning.
The vehicles rammed into each other from behind, causing minor traffic along the busy road.
There were no casualties, and the damage to the vehicles was reported to be minor.
Motorists were urged to drive cautiously and maintain safe distances to avoid similar accidents, especially during peak hours.
The incident was quickly cleared, and normal traffic flow resumed within a short time.
On Saturday, the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) expressed deep sorrow following a series of tragic road traffic crashes that have claimed several lives and left others injured along major highways within the last 24 hours.
In a statement, the authority said the incidents occurred on the Nairobi–Mombasa Highway and the Gilgil–Nakuru Highway, involving public service vehicles, commercial trucks and private operators.
NTSA extended its condolences to families who lost loved ones and wished a speedy recovery to those injured.
"We are deeply saddened by the tragic road traffic crashes that have claimed several lives and left others injured along major highways in the last 24 hours," the statement read.
The Authority said investigations into all the crashes are ongoing and that further updates will be issued as more information becomes available.
The authority noted that preliminary findings point to dangerous overtaking, failure to maintain safe following distances and loss of vehicle control as recurring risk factors in the incidents.
NTSA urged all road users to exercise extreme caution and strictly adhere to traffic rules, particularly as schools reopen and children travel back to school next week.
The Authority further urged all road users to take extra precautions to ensure the safety of children during the busy back-to-school period.
NTSA said this is because schools are set to reopen this week.
The Authority said that private motorists, public transport operators, school administrators, and parents or guardians all share a responsibility in safeguarding young commuters.
Road users are being advised to strictly comply with traffic rules, plan journeys carefully, and avoid night travel due to reduced visibility.
“In just a few days, thousands of children will be heading back to school. Private motorists, public transport operators, school administrators, and parents/guardians all share a significant responsibility in safeguarding the safety of our children during this busy season. We urge all road users to strictly comply with traffic rules, plan their journeys adequately and avoid night travel due to reduced visibility,” the statement read.
Following the long holiday break, vehicle owners are expected to ensure that any transport used for children is properly maintained, roadworthy, and fully licensed.
