Lang'ata MP Phelix Odiwuor, popularly known as Jalango, has called for an immediate and total suspension of all construction activities in South C and Nairobi West wards following a tragic building collapse early Friday morning.
Jalango said that at approximately 5 am, a 16-storey building under construction along Muhoho Road in South C, Langata Constituency, collapsed, leaving several people trapped beneath the rubble.
“This is a tragic and unacceptable way to begin the year. Our greatest concern is the safety of those affected, and we pray that no lives have been lost,” said Jalang’o.
“We unequivocally demand the immediate and total suspension of all construction activities in South C and Nairobi West wards. This halt must remain in effect until full approvals, safety audits, and compliance verifications are conducted by all relevant authorities.”
He said the suspension must remain in effect until all construction projects undergo full approvals, safety audits, and compliance checks by relevant authorities.
“The continued disregard for construction regulations and public safety must come to an end before more lives are put at risk,” he said.
He also called on responsible agencies to act with urgency, transparency, and accountability during investigations, while urging families and loved ones affected to remain calm.
“The nation stands with you. Our thoughts and prayers are with you, and we hope for the safe rescue of everyone involved,” Jalango added.
On Friday morning, one person was injured when a 16-storey building under construction collapsed along Muhoho Avenue, South C, Nairobi.
Police said they suspect at least one person may have died in the incident.
The building was under construction at the time, but there were no workers on site.

Officers who responded to the scene said the security guards on duty had not been located, and efforts to account for them were ongoing.
Nairobi police commander George Seda said multi-agency teams were deployed to the site to search for possible casualties.
“One man, who we believe was a pedestrian, was rescued and rushed to the hospital. He was walking nearby when the building collapsed. We suspect there may be other people trapped inside,” he said.
A security guard in the area told police he heard a loud bang and saw dust, only to realise the building had collapsed.
He and others rushed to the scene and assisted in rescuing the injured man.
The incident has highlighted concerns over compliance with building regulations.
Nairobi residents have long complained about the rapid proliferation of unregulated structures, with some cases ending up in court.

his is not the first building to fall while under construction in Nairobi.Dozens of similar incidents in the past have left many dead and injured.
Investigations into previous cases continue amid complaints that owners were allowed to rebuild without facing consequences.
