
A man has been arrested after killing his one-year-and-six-month-old son in a village in Githunguri, Kiambu County.
The man later attempted to take his own life.
Police said he was rescued and taken to a local hospital under guard.
The incident occurred on December 29, 2025, when the suspect attacked the child at a home in the area.
Police said the boy died at the scene.
The house belongs to the child’s mother.
According to police, the suspect, who is the boy’s father, followed the child and his mother to the home before carrying out the attack.
The motive has not been disclosed.
A kitchen knife believed to have been used in the incident was recovered at the scene.
Police said the suspect later attempted to harm himself.
The child’s mother was not at home at the time, but the boy’s grandmother was present and raised an alarm.
Officers said the suspect was found injured and in pain before being rushed to hospital.
Investigations into the incident are ongoing.
The child’s body was moved to the mortuary pending an autopsy and other procedures.
Meanwhile, police in Muhuru Bay, Nyatike Sub-county, Migori County, rescued three suspects from being lynched by a mob after they were accused of killing a fisherman.
The incident occurred on December 29, 2025, after the body of Zadock Oketch was found decomposed and floating between Migingo Beach and Muhuru Bay.
Oketch had been reported missing on December 27 after going fishing with other fishermen.
Police said the body had a visible injury on the forehead, believed to have been caused by a blunt object.
News of the injury prompted a mob to raid the homes of three men who were last seen with the deceased and attempt to lynch them.
Police intervened, rescued the suspects, and placed them under arrest.
Officers said they explained to the crowd the need for investigations to ensure justice. The body was taken to the mortuary pending an autopsy.
In a separate incident in Ahero, Kisumu County, a suspect was lynched by a mob after stabbing a man during a failed robbery.
The victim was stabbed in the stomach and rushed to hospital in serious condition.
Police said a mob later attacked the suspect, leading to his death. His body was taken to the mortuary pending an autopsy.
Police have again warned the public against mob justice and urged that suspects be handed over to authorities for lawful action.
