
Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of a 42-year-old man in Kamugundho area, Rongo, Migori County.
The deceased, identified as Joseph Kitai, was found lying on the roadside after sustaining a serious head injury.
Authorities said he was returning home from a local shopping centre when the incident occurred. Kitai was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Police have launched an inquiry into the attack and are appealing to the public for information that could assist in the investigation.
In Bungoma County, a 40-year-old man, Boaz Mamati, died after being taken into police custody. Police said Mamati had been rescued by officers following an attack by a mob in Chesikaki, who alleged he had stolen livestock.
He was initially treated at a local health centre before being returned to the police station pending arraignment.
On December 29, 2025, officers at the station noticed he was having difficulty breathing and rushed him to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
The body was moved to a mortuary pending an autopsy.
The Independent Policing Oversight Authority has been informed and has announced an investigation into the circumstances surrounding his death.
In Garissa County, a nine-year-old girl died after being attacked by a crocodile in the Saka area near the River Tana while fetching water.
Her body was retrieved by local residents and taken to a local mortuary.
The incident occurred on December 28, 2025.
In Nairobi, a police officer was injured while arresting a suspect linked to a robbery in Ngara.
According to authorities, a group of men had reportedly robbed a man of his mobile phone, prompting an alert to police on patrol.
During the arrest, the suspect bit the officer on the right hand. Other officers detained the suspect, and the injured officer was taken to hospital for treatment.
Meanwhile, police reported 14 fatalities in separate road accidents on Sunday, December 28, 2025.
The victims included pedestrians, passengers, motorbike riders, pillion passengers, and a driver.
At least 31 others were injured and admitted to various hospitals.
