Mining and Blue Economy Cabinet Secretary Hassan Joho has sent a message of condolence to former Cabinet Secretary for Gender, Culture, the Arts and Heritage Aisha Jumwa following the death of her mother, Mama Sidi Karisa Katana.

CS Joho described the passing as a profound loss and paid tribute to Mama Sidi as a woman of exceptional character and influence.

“It is with a heavy heart that I extend my deepest condolences to my sister Hon. Aisha Jumwa Katana and her entire family following the passing of their beloved matriarch, Mama Sidi Karisa Katana,” Joho said.

He praised the late Mama Sidi for living a life anchored in service to both family and community, noting that her strength, grace, and sense of responsibility left a lasting impact on those around her.

“Mama Sidi was a remarkable woman of great influence, strength and grace. She lived a life defined by unwavering devotion to her family and a deep sense of responsibility to her community. Her legacy of love, wisdom and selflessness will continue to live on in the hearts of all who were fortunate to know her,” he added.

CS Joho also offered prayers for the bereaved family, asking God to grant them comfort and strength during the period of mourning.

“In this moment of immense loss, I pray that the Almighty God grants the family comfort, strength and peace to endure the pain of her passing. May the Almighty God rest the soul of Mama Sidi Karisa Katana in eternal peace,” he said.

Mombasa Governor Abdulswamad Sherrif Nassir also joined leaders in mourning the death of Mama Sidi.

In a condolence message, the governor described the loss of a mother as deeply painful, noting that Mama Sidi was a central pillar of her family.

“I convey my deepest condolences to Hon. Aisha Jumwa and her family following the passing of Mama Sidi Karisa. The loss of a mother and family pillar is profound, and our thoughts are with you at this difficult time,” the governor said.

“May the Almighty grant you strength, patience, and solace, and may Mama Sidi’s soul rest in everlasting peace.

He prayed for strength and comfort for the bereaved family, asking God to grant them patience and solace as they come to terms with the loss.

In a statement issued on Sunday, Jumwa said her mother, Sidi, passed away after a short illness.

“With deep sorrow, we announce the passing of our beloved mother, Sidi, who died today after a brief illness,” the statement read.

Jumwa described her mother as the pillar and heart of the family, noting that she lived a life defined by love, kindness and dignity.

“She was the foundation and soul of our family, living with love, compassion and humanity. Her memory will live on forever in our hearts,” she said.

Jumwa concluded the statement with an Islamic prayer, “Inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji’un,” meaning “Indeed we belong to God, and indeed to Him we shall return.”

She said the funeral of her late mother will take place at their home in Takaungu, Mnarani Ward, Kilifi North Constituency, Kilifi County.

Kilifi Governor Gideon Maitha Mung’aro expressed his sorrow in a statement saying, "I have received with great sorrow the news of the passing of Mama Sidi Karisa Katana, the mother of Hon. Aisha Jumwa Katana. As the community of Kilifi, we have lost a nurturing mother and parent who was a good example in our society.

To my sister Aisha Jumwa and the entire family, we extend our heartfelt condolences for this loss. Losing a parent is never easy for anyone, and as a community, we will keep you in our prayers during this difficult period of mourning. May God grant the soul of the deceased, Mama Sidi, a peaceful place in eternal rest. Amina."
