Former Cabinet Secretary for Gender, Culture, the Arts and Heritage, Aisha Jumwa and her mother Sidi/AISHA, XFormer Cabinet Secretary for Gender, Culture, the Arts and Heritage, Aisha Jumwa, has announced the death of her mother.
In a statement issued on Sunday, Jumwa said her mother, Sidi, passed away earlier today after a short illness.
“With deep sorrow, we announce the passing of our beloved mother, Sidi, who died today after a brief illness,” the statement read.
Jumwa described her mother as the pillar and heart of the family, noting that she lived a life defined by love, kindness and dignity.
“She was the foundation and soul of our family, living with love, compassion and humanity. Her memory will live on forever in our hearts,” she said.
Jumwa concluded the statement with an Islamic prayer, “Inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji’un,” meaning “Indeed we belong to God, and indeed to Him we shall return.”
Aisha Jumwa, who currently serves as Chairperson of the Kenya Roads Board, has announced that the funeral of her late mother will take place tomorrow at 10 a.m. at their home in Takaungu, Mnarani Ward, Kilifi North Constituency, Kilifi County.
Messages of condolence have begun to pour in from political leaders and members of the public.
Kilifi Governor Gideon Maitha Mung’aro expressed his sorrow in a statement saying, "I have received with great sorrow the news of the passing of Mama Sidi Karisa Katana, the mother of Hon. Aisha Jumwa Katana. As the community of Kilifi, we have lost a nurturing mother and parent who was a good example in our society.
To my sister Aisha Jumwa and the entire family, we extend our heartfelt condolences for this loss. Losing a parent is never easy for anyone, and as a community, we will keep you in our prayers during this difficult period of mourning. May God grant the soul of the deceased, Mama Sidi, a peaceful place in eternal rest. Amina."
Former Board Director of the Coast Water Works Development Agency and philanthropist Amina Mnyazi also extended her condolences:
"I wish to extend my heartfelt condolences to the Kenya Roads Board Chairperson Hon. Aisha Jumwa on the passing of her beloved mother. I have just learned of the loss and I wish nothing but strength, comfort, and peace to the family during this tough time. May her soul rest in perfect peace."
Likoni MP Mishi Mboko also extended her condolences, saying: "Pole sana dadaangu, Mheshimiwa Aisha Jumwa Katana, kwa kufiwa na mama Sidi Karisa. Nakuombea Mwenyezi Mungu faraja na nguvu ya kustahimili majonzi haya. Inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji’un."
