Detectives are investigating the discovery of a missing boda boda rider’s body in Migori County.
The body of 19-year-old Shadrack Okello was found floating in the Miroche River in Nyadago, Nyatike, several days after he was reported missing on December 23, police said on Sunday.
The body had begun to decompose at the time of discovery.
Okello worked as a boda boda rider operating between Masara and Arombe.
Police reported that the body showed injuries to the head and neck. His motorcycle was missing when the body was found.
The remains were moved to a mortuary pending an autopsy and further investigation.
Police noted that cases involving the killing of riders followed by robbery of their motorcycles have been increasing in the area.
Authorities have urged riders to prioritize their safety and cooperate if confronted by attackers. Some of the stolen motorcycles are reportedly refurbished and resold.
Investigations into these incidents are ongoing.
In a separate matter, the Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA) is investigating the death of a suspect at Ongata Rongai police station cells.
The individual reportedly died by hanging on a window grill on December 27.
Police confirmed that the body was moved to a mortuary pending an autopsy and further investigation. IPOA routinely oversees deaths occurring in police custody.

Meanwhile, in Kirinyaga County, police are searching for a 40-year-old woman suspected of fatally stabbing her partner, 52-year-old Peter Mwangi Wanyeki, during a dispute on Christmas Day at Muragara Shopping Centre in Ndia Sub-County.
Witnesses said the confrontation began at a local bar over a disagreement involving a Sh60 alcohol bill and escalated into violence, resulting in Wanyeki being stabbed in the chest.
He died at the scene. Kirinyaga West Sub-County Police Commander Jos Mudavadi said officers launched a search for the suspect, who reportedly left the scene immediately after the stabbing.
“Detectives are on the ground pursuing leads, and we urge members of the public to share any information that may help in her arrest,” Mudavadi said.
Wanyeki’s body was taken to a local mortuary as investigations continue.
