Four more illegal firearms surrendered in Angata Barikoi area




Four additional illegal firearms were on Sunday voluntarily surrendered to security agencies in Angata Barikoi area, Transmara South Sub-County, Narok County.

This comes at a time when the government’s amnesty on illegal firearms continues to gain momentum.

According to the National Police Service, the surrendered weapons included one AK-47 rifle and three homemade firearms capable of firing.

Police said the firearms have since been secured and placed in safe custody, pending further processing in accordance with the law.

Police authorities welcomed the development, acknowledging the cooperation of local leaders and the public in supporting the disarmament initiative.

The NPS said the voluntary surrender reflects growing public trust and commitment to improving security in the region.

The Service has urged individuals still in possession of illegal firearms to take advantage of the ongoing amnesty period and surrender the weapons.

According to NPS, the initiative is aimed at enhancing public safety and protecting lives and property.

NPS further called on the public to continue working closely with security agencies by reporting suspicious activities.

Police reiterated that community cooperation remains critical to sustaining peace and security in Transmara South and other affected areas.

On Saturday, an illegal home-made firearm was voluntarily surrendered to police in the Oldonyorok area of Transmara South Sub-County, Narok County.

According to the NPS, the weapon, which is capable of firing, was handed over together with three rounds of ammunition.

The firearm and ammunition were placed in safe custody pending further administrative action in accordance with the law.

Police said the voluntary surrender is part of the ongoing national disarmament initiative aimed at enhancing public safety, peace, and security through community cooperation and trust.

The National Police Service commended members of the public and local leadership for their collaboration and responsiveness to the government directive, noting that community support remains critical to the success of the exercise.

The Service encouraged the public to partner with the police by reporting suspicious activities through the toll-free numbers.
