
Tragedy struck a family holiday after two minors drowned while swimming in a pool of water in the Pala area of Ndhiwa, Homa Bay County.
Police said the incident occurred on December 27 at a pool of water in an abandoned quarry.
The children were on holiday at the time.
According to police, the two are believed to have left their home without the knowledge of adults and gone to the quarry to swim, where the incident occurred.
Their bodies were later retrieved and taken to the mortuary pending post-mortem examinations and further investigations.
In a separate incident, a fisherman died following a hippopotamus attack at Masinga Dam in Mwea, Embu County.
Police said two fishermen were on a boat at the dam on December 27 when a hippopotamus attacked, causing the vessel to capsize.
One of the fishermen, identified as Paul Muli, aged 40, drowned, while the other managed to swim to safety.
Muli’s body was retrieved and taken to the mortuary pending an autopsy, police said.
Meanwhile, police in Nairobi are investigating the death of a 21-year-old man who was fatally injured in Dandora.
The victim, identified as Henry Otieno, was reportedly attacked by a group of people in the Canaan area.
Police said the motive of the attack had not been established.
Otieno was rushed to hospital with serious injuries but later succumbed on the evening of December 27.
His body was moved to the mortuary pending a post-mortem examination as investigations continue.
Elsewhere, police in Matungulu, Machakos County, are investigating the death of a man whose body was found floating in a water-filled pit.
Authorities said the circumstances surrounding the death remain unclear.
The body was taken to the mortuary pending identification and an autopsy. Investigations were ongoing on Sunday.
In another case, police have arrested a suspect in connection with the death of Victor Kimani Wamucii in the Ngarariga area of Limuru, Kiambu County.
The incident occurred on November 20, 2025.
Police said Wamucii had undergone circumcision and was under the care of the suspect at the time of his death.
Investigators are examining allegations that the deceased may have been subjected to mistreatment, which police say was allegedly described as mentorship.
The suspect was arrested about a month later following investigations.
Police said the matter remains under inquiry.
