Cabinet Secretary for Cooperatives and Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) Development Wycliffe Oparanya at the 2nd Annual National Farmers End Year Celebrations and Awards in Kericho/HANDOUTThe Agriculture and Food Authority (AFA) joined other public and private sector organisations to mark the 2nd Annual National Farmers End Year Celebrations and Awards.
The event brought together farmers and agribusiness stakeholders from across the country to recognise excellence, innovation and resilience in Kenya’s agricultural sector.
The colourful ceremony was held at Kiprugut Chumo Stadium in Kericho County and served as a national forum celebrating outstanding contributions by farmers, cooperatives, agribusinesses and institutions driving food security, value addition and sustainable agricultural growth.
The event was officiated by Cabinet Secretary for Cooperatives and Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) Development Wycliffe Oparanya.
Several senior government officials and leaders attended the celebrations, including Principal Secretary for the State Department for Agriculture Development Dr Paul Kipronoh Ronoh, AFA Director General Dr Bruno Linyiru, and Principal Secretary for the State Department for Public Health and Professional Standards Mary Muthoni, alongside national and county leaders and representatives of farmer organisations.
Speaking during the event, Linyiru underscored the central role of agriculture in Kenya’s economic journey, noting that AFA remains at the forefront of transforming the sector.
“We remain committed to promoting sustainable production, value addition, and innovation for a food-secure future,” he stated, adding that the authority continues to work closely with farmers and value chain actors to unlock growth opportunities across the sector.
The awards ceremony brought together farmers, cooperatives, agribusiness players and policymakers to celebrate and recognise the invaluable contribution of farmers to food security, economic growth and national development.
Organisers said the forum also provided an opportunity to reflect on challenges facing the sector while highlighting successful models and innovations that can be scaled up nationwide.
Muthoni, who also addressed the gathering, said she was honoured to attend the event and commended farmers for their resilience and contribution to the country’s wellbeing.
“Congratulations to all award recipients, and appreciation to our farmers for their continued contribution to Kenya’s food security and economic growth,” Muthoni said.
The 2nd Annual National Farmers End Year Celebrations and Awards in Kericho/HANDOUTThis year’s edition marked a significant departure from previous ceremonies by deliberately recognising every link that moves agriculture from soil to shelf.
Awards were structured across eight key categories, including individual farmers, seed growers, agro-dealers, MSMEs, millers, transporters — including motorbike operators enabling last-mile delivery of inputs — manufacturers, and county value chains.
According to organisers, the expanded categories send a clear policy signal that Kenya’s agricultural transformation will be inclusive, market-driven and value-chain focused.
Held under the theme “Seeds of Excellence: Recognising Innovation, Inclusion and Impact in Kenyan Agriculture and the Livestock Sector,” the 2025 awards aim to inspire a new generation of farmers and agripreneurs, promote climate-smart agricultural practices and elevate agribusiness competitiveness at both county and national levels.
