Food delivery and restaurant listing—Vibo Eats has partnered with restaurants, NGOs, Community-Based Organisations and self-help groups across Kenya to feed vulnerable families.
This is in an initiative that targets to distribute at least one million freshly prepared, nutritious meals to vulnerable families during the Christmas season. Dubbed “million meals drive”, the project will run through the company’s digital food platform supported by its partners.
Project Lead for Rachel Mwangi said the initiative seeks to address Kenya’s rising hunger and food waste crisis simultaneously. It is estimated that Kenya wastes up to 40 per cent of the food produce annually, worth over Sh72 billion, while millions of families go to bed hungry.
Recent numbers also indicate that the number of Kenyans unable to afford a healthy diet increased by 7.7 million, in a span of six years, underscoring the difficulties Kenyans are facing in trying to put a healthy meal on their tables.
Food and Agricultural Organisation (FAO) defines the cost of a healthy diet as an indicator providing national-level estimates of the cost of acquiring the cheapest possible healthy diet in a country. A healthy diet is defined as one comprising a variety of locally available foods that meet energy and nutritional needs.
“The Million Meals Drive is our way of bridging that gap during the festive season by transforming kitchens into engines of kindness and ensuring that every donated meal reaches the table where it is needed most,” Mwangi said.

Meanwhile, an estimated 25–33 per cent of the population faces food insecurity or undernourishment. Mwangi noted that these contradictions inspired Vibo Eats to create a digitally powered solution that delivers both compassion and accountability.
“This entire programme is anchored on a transparent digital process,” she said.
“Every meal is logged, tracked and verified on the Vibo Eats platform, from the moment it is prepared to the moment it is delivered. This ensures no meal goes unaccounted for and every contribution creates real impact.”
To strengthen transparency and public trust, the initiative will leverage Vibo Eats’ existing digital infrastructure–real-time meal tracking from participating restaurants to beneficiaries, digitally verified referrals through partner NGOs, CBOs and community organisations, digital delivery confirmations, data-driven mapping and transparent end-of-campaign reporting for all partners and donors. Mwangi emphasised that this digital backbone will set new standards for integrity in community feeding programmes.
“Technology allows us to safeguard every act of generosity. People want to give, but they also want assurance that their support truly reaches those in need. This system provides that assurance,” she said.
The Million Meals Drive is powered by a wide network of partner restaurants on the Vibo Eats platform, each turning their kitchens into hubs of hope throughout December.
“At Vibo Eats, we believe Christmas should be a season of warmth, dignity and togetherness,” Mwangi said.
“No family should miss a meal simply because of circumstance. When Kenyans come together, we can feed a nation.”
The firm is inviting individuals, corporates, restaurants and community organisations to join the mission to make a million Christmas tables full again.
