The hires are aimed at offering a significant boost to staffing levels in public primary, junior and secondary schools.

According to the commission, the positions include 7,065 posts for primary schools, 12 posts for Junior Schools and 2,082 posts for Secondary Schools, all to be filled in December under permanent and pensionable terms.

Natural attrition refers to the gradual reduction of a workforce due to factors such as retirement, death, or resignation for personal reasons.

TSC did not, however, clarify whether the positions form part of the 24,000 new teachers that President William Ruto announced during his State of the Nation Address that would be hired.

The President said the government would hire the 24,000 teachers by January, bringing the total number of teachers hired since he assumed office to 100,000.

TSC outlined strict eligibility criteria for prospective applicants, stating that candidates must be Kenyan citizens, be holders of a minimum of a P1 certificate in the case of Primary Schools and a minimum of a Diploma in Education in the case of Junior Schools and Secondary schools.

Applicants must also be registered teachers with the Teachers Service Commission.

The requirements are expected to guide the selection of qualified teachers capable of filling the gap left across learning institutions.

Applications will be submitted exclusively online. The notice directs all interested applicants to submit their applications online through the Teachers Service Commission’s website, www.tsc.go.ke under ‘Careers’ or teachersonline.tsc.go.ke not later than December 8, 2025, midnight.

TSC emphasised that manual applications will not be considered and warned that candidates must not submit more than one application form.

"Filling out two or more Application for Employment Forms will lead to disqualification," the commission warned.

The commission also outlined the process that will follow the application window, stating that the TSC Recruitment Guidelines for the 2025/2026 financial year will apply.

It further indicated that merit lists generated from this cycle for both primary and secondary schools will be used for subsequent recruitment drives within the financial year.

Shortlisted candidates will be expected to present their original academic and professional certificates during interviews.

TSC added that preference will be given to applicants who have not previously been employed by the commission, with successful candidates being posted to serve anywhere in the country.

“Successful candidates will be posted to serve in any part of the country and not necessarily in the county or school where they were interviewed,” the notice reads.

The commission reiterated its commitment to fair hiring practices, stating that it “is an equal opportunity employer as per the constitutional provisions and law and persons with disabilities (PWDs) are encouraged to apply.”

To safeguard applicants, TSC warned the public against fraudsters who may attempt to exploit jobseekers, emphasising that the recruitment process is free of charge.

Cases of attempted fraud should be reported to the nearest police station, TSC office or to the commission’s headquarters  via the email address [email protected] or through hotlines 020-2892193 or  020-2892131.

Details on the available vacancies per county and school are available on the commission's website www.tsc.go.ke.
