A police officer from the General Service Unit (GSU) was fatally attacked outside the State House, Nairobi, on Monday morning.
The officer was speared to death by an assailant who claimed Satan directed him to commit the murder.
The incident caused immediate alarm at the highly secure government complex.
The Deadly Attack
The slain officer was identified as Police Constable Ramadhan Khamisi Matanka. He was attached to the GSU’s elite G Company, which is responsible for guarding the State House and state lodges.
The attack occurred outside Gate D, which serves as a security clearance zone for both motorists and pedestrians entering the State House premises.

PC Matanka was conducting routine security checks at the time. He and two colleagues were busy clearing a vehicle entering the compound. The incident took place around 8:15 am, according to one police report.Another source noted the time was approximately 11 am.
The assailant used a spear to strike the officer. PC Matanka was hit on the left side of his chest. He sustained critical injuries. The officer was rushed to Kenyatta National Hospital.
Officials confirmed he succumbed to his injuries while undergoing emergency treatment. He had lost a significant amount of blood.
The Assailant and His Claim
The suspect was identified as Kinyuka Kinyumi, aged 56. Witnesses reported that the assailant approached the scene disguised as a member of the street families.
He was carrying a sack. Inside the sack, he had concealed the spear.
The suspect allegedly hid briefly behind a flower bed. He then removed the weapon and launched his assault.

Colleagues quickly subdued and arrested the attacker at the scene. Once in custody, the suspect provided a shocking explanation for the murder.

“This man claims he was sent by Satan to attack the police officer. He killed him, and he is lucky to be alive himself,” said an officer aware of the developments.
The suspect told police that he walked to the area as directed by 'Satan'.
Security Response and Investigation
The incident occurred while President William Ruto was inside State House. He had been scheduled to leave later that day for an official engagement in Konza City.
Following the security breach, security measures were intensified. Officers reinforced checks at all entry points.
Senior police officials visited the scene. These included Kilimani police boss Patricia Yegon and her DCI counterpart Hussein Mahat.
The 56-year-old suspect is currently being held in police custody. He is under interrogation as homicide detectives launch a full investigation.
The police are probing his motive and identity. Detectives are reviewing CCTV footage and witness accounts to determine his movements.

Wider Context
The attack on PC Matanka occurred just hours after a separate tragedy involving a GSU officer. Another GSU officer was strangled and drowned near Jomo Kenyatta International Airport. The suspect in that separate Sunday, October 12, 2025, incident was also arrested.
The GSU’s G-Company provides security for the President’s homes and premises. The President also relies on the Presidential Escort Unit for movement security.
