Kenyan athlete Rosemary Wanjiru has won the Women’s 2025 Berlin Marathon.
Wanjiru won the race in a time of 2:21:04.
Wanjiru sped away from the lead pack after 25 kilometres, taking a comfortable lead into the race.
Ethiopia's Dera Dida finished three seconds behind Wanjiru, while her compatriot Azmera Gebru closed the top three finishes in the women's category in 2:21:29.
In a message after the victory, President William Ruto hailed Wanjiru for a deserved victory.
“Well, in Rosemary Wanjiru for your deserved victory in the women’s race,” he said.
The men's category was won by Sebastien Sawe, who clocked 2:02:15 in the German capital, sealing the win on what was described as a warm day for distance running.
Sawe is now a marathon winner in Germany, Valencia Marathon (2024) , where he clocked 2:02:05, and London Marathon (2025), where he clocked 2:02:27.
The performance underlines his growing stature on the global stage, with the Kenyan maintaining an unbeaten streak since making his marathon debut.
The Berlin course, renowned for producing world-class times, once again proved a fitting stage as Sawe delivered a dominant run to secure his latest triumph.
