TRADERS IN ONE of the towns in a constituency neighbouring Nairobi have expressed frustrations over extortion by police officers who often arrive in Subaru vehicles demanding cash. In a recent incident, the alleged officers arrived in four vehicles to reportedly extort from a trader who refills gas cylinders.
What they didn’t know is the trader had gotten fed up with them and this time around refused to entertain the behaviour. A commotion ensured, drawing the attention of other traders who ganged up against the officers. Not even shots in the air cowed them.
Residents are now demanding that the police bosses rein in such rogue officers who have made their businesses, especially liquor shops and bars, their cash cow.
