After qualifying for the Kenya Basketball Federation (KBF) Division One, Kisii University Raptors and Congo Nets will be battling for the bragging rights when the two sides meet this weekend at Kisii University in the Division Two final.
After the weekend’s two games, Kisii University Raptors will head to KPA Makande Hall in Mombasa next weekend for the final three games of the final to determine the Division Two champions.
Congo Nets overcame Don Bosco in the semifinals while Kisii University Raptors, coached by Godwin Rumbe, came from two losses down to beat the Cabal Elitists from Nakuru County 3-2 in the best-of-five series.
Kisii University Raptors assistant captain Vincent Onsongo said he is confident of overcoming the Mombasa-based side.
“Our target is to win the two games on Saturday and Sunday, then win one in Mombasa to emerge as overall winners. Since we have all qualified for Division One, we are battling for bragging rights,” said Onsongo.
Onsongo added: “The players have played together for a long and this has helped the team this season. They have also matured and gained the necessary experience in game management.”
On the season, which is ending next weekend, Onsongo added: “To be honest, the season has been tough and competitive. We played against good teams, but our players stepped up their performance. This helped us finish second in the league.”
Onsongo further revealed that their target is to play in the Kenya Basketball Federation top-flight league.
“We have a team of young and experienced players. We are looking forward to a good outing in the Division One league next season. We want to be the first team from Kisii to play in the KBF top-tier league,” remarked Onsongo, who plays as a point guard. The team comprises current and former Kisii University students.
