Afrobeat, bongo, and gengetone often define Kenya’s music scene. However, Nairobi is about to experience a shift in its soundscape with a one-night-only jazz concert by legendary saxophonist Kenny G.

A New Chapter for Nairobi Jazz

Jazz has a long-standing but quiet presence in Nairobi, mainly limited to small clubs and hotel lounges. The Safaricom International Jazz Festival has previously drawn large crowds, with an estimated 10,000 fans attending the 2015 festival. Still, for many, jazz remains on the fringes of mainstream culture.

"If sold-out venues and streaming spikes in other cities he’s visited are anything to go by, this concert could ignite a fresh wave of jazz appreciation in Kenya."

Bridging Generations

This concert is an interesting cultural crossroads. Seasoned jazz fans revere Kenny G as a legend from the '80s and '90s. At the same time, younger listeners are rediscovering his music through internet culture and remixes.

More Than a Concert

The concert is a chance for the city to solidify its place on the global jazz map and show that East Africa has a thriving audience for world-class performances.

The event is scheduled for September 27, 2025, at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC). The concert, titled "One Night Only," is backed by major sponsors, including Stanbic Bank, Safaricom, EABL, and Radio Africa Events, signaling a significant cultural play.
