The High Court is expected to deliver its final verdict in a petition filed by Magare Gikenyi and lawyer Eliud Matindi challenging the appointment of the commissioners to the Public Service Commission (PSC).
The case, lodged earlier this year, contests the recruitment process that saw Mary Kimonye appointed Vice Chairperson alongside several other commissioners.
The petitioners had raised concerns over the recruitment process, pointing to alleged gaps in transparency and compliance with constitutional principles on fairness, merit, and inclusivity.
They further allege that the selection panel and the National Assembly failed to ensure regional balance as required by law.
The respondents, including the National Assembly and the selection panel, have defended the appointments, maintaining that due process was followed in line with constitutional and statutory requirements.
Amos Kimunya's anti-graft case
An anti-corruption court will this morning continue a defence hearing in a case where former Lands Minister Amos Kimunya is defending himself in a revived Sh60 million graft matter.
The case involves allegations that Kimunya, alongside three others, unlawfully allocated a 25-acre public parcel of land to Midlands Limited while serving as Minister.
The prosecution alleges the transaction, valued at approximately Sh60 million, was irregular and contrary to procurement laws.
Kimunya has maintained his innocence, arguing that the process followed all legal requirements and that he did not influence the allocation.
The matter had initially been concluded with an acquittal before the Court of Appeal overturned the decision, ordering a fresh hearing that is now at the defence stage.
Blogger Francis Gaitho’s case
The cybercrime case against social media influencer Francis Gaitho resumes today at the Milimani Law Courts.
In a previous court session on July 14, 2025, the court sought to compel further progress in the matter by summoning the investigating officer, with Chief Magistrate Susan Shitubi directing the officer’s attendance.
The case, which centres on allegations that the blogger published false information regarding the Kware murders and failed to honour court-mandated dates, was adjourned with scrutiny placed on procedural compliance.
A warrant of arrest was earlier, on June 30, issued for Gaitho following his non-appearance on the scheduled court dates.
