Athletics Kenya (AK) will on Tuesday kick off a nationwide registration exercise targeting athletics training camps, coaches, medical personnel and all Athlete Support Personnel (ASP), in a bold move to streamline the sport and safeguard athletes across the country.

‎The phased rollout begins in the South Rift region from Tuesday through to Saturday.

‎‎The exercise will then shift focus to the uniformed forces (Kenya Defence Forces, Kenya Prisons and National Police Service) and AK Nairobi region from August 18 to 22.

‎Registration will then move to Central (August 25–29), North Eastern (September 1–5), Eastern (September 8–12), Southern (September 15–19), Coast (September 22–26) and Nyanza South (October 6–10).

‎The process will have stops in Nyanza North (October 13–17), Western (October 20–24), North Rift (October 27–31) and Central Rift (November 3–7).

The exercise is part of a broader strategy to promote integrity, safety and professionalism.

‎"Athletics Kenya is pleased to announce the start of the national registration exercise for all Athletics Training Camps/Groups, as well as coaches, medical personnel and other Athlete Support Personnel (ASP) working with athletes," AK said in a statement.

‎"The registration exercise is a crucial step in our strategy to standardise and regulate the operations of all athletics camps and groups all over the country to ensure a safe, professional and accountable environment for our athletes."

The exercise will require all applicants to present documents relevant to their roles.

‎"To register as Athlete support Personnel (ASP), including coaches, medical staff and other support roles applicants must provide specific documentation," the statement added.

‎‎Coaches will be required to submit a valid coaching certificate and a police clearance certificate (good conduct).

‎‎Medical personnel must provide their practising licence and a police clearance certificate.

‎For other ASPs, including physiotherapists, nutritionists and camp administrators, they must present proof of professional certification and clearance from law enforcement.‎

‎"Additionally, all foreign nationals, regardless of their roles, must provide a valid work permit," AK added.
