The Narok County Public Service Board has announced a recruitment exercise for game rangers and Game Warden III (Cadet) positions, which will be conducted in September 2025.

According to a notice issued on Wednesday, the recruitment for game rangers will take place from September 8 to September 18, 2025. 

The County Department of Tourism and Wildlife intends to employ 150 individuals as game rangers, categorized under job grade CPSB 13 (JG ‘F’), on permanent and pensionable terms.

Successful candidates will be expected to safeguard wildlife and prevent poaching, ensure the security of tourists, conduct parade and sentry duties, man report and inquiry offices, investigate wildlife-related crimes, and preserve crime scenes. 

They will also be responsible for tracking and recovering illegal wildlife products, collecting intelligence, interrogating suspects, compiling statistics on environmental and conservation crimes, preparing nominal rolls, undertaking patrols, escort duties, and participating in rescue operations.

Applicants must be Kenyan citizens with a valid national ID and must have attained at least a KCSE grade of D- (minus). 

Candidates should be between the ages of 18 and 28 years, possess a valid Certificate of Good Conduct, and have no criminal record. 

They are required to be physically and mentally fit, have good hearing and clear vision, and be computer literate. 

Men must be at least 5 feet 4 inches tall, while women must be at least 5 feet 2 inches tall.

Additionally, female candidates must not be pregnant at the time of recruitment or during the initial training period.

All applicants are required to meet the provisions of Chapter Six of the Constitution, which deals with Leadership and Integrity, as well as Article 232 on the Values and Principles of Public Service. 

Those who are selected will undergo paramilitary training for a duration of no less than six months.

The recruitment exercise will be held across various locations, including Ole Ntimama Stadium, Olokurto Primary School, Nairagie Enkare DEB, Ololulunga Sub-County Headquarters, Olchekut Supa Secondary (OSAS), Sogoo High School, Kilgoris DEB, Emurua Dikirr Primary School, and Ilkarian Primary School. 

Recruitment activities will begin each day at 8am during the period from September 8 to September 18, 2025.

The county has emphasised that the recruitment is entirely free of charge and has warned that any form of bribery or corruption will result in disqualification and legal action. 

Candidates are required to present their original national ID, KRA PIN certificate, academic certificates, and other relevant testimonials during the recruitment process.

In addition to the ranger positions, Narok County is also seeking to recruit 30 individuals to fill the position of Game Warden III (Cadet) under job grade CPSB 10 (JG ‘J’), also on permanent and pensionable terms. 

The duties of those appointed to this position will include managing crime sections at outposts, mapping high-conflict and poaching-prone areas, recording and investigating cases, forwarding them to the police for prosecution, and maintaining records of lost and found property. 

They will also provide guidance to investigating officers, supervise communications including signal and radio rooms, oversee officer deployments, liaise with government agencies on security matters, and ensure proper maintenance of county vehicles and assets. 

Additional responsibilities will include preparing operational records, submitting timely reports and correspondences, executing administrative duties such as morning call-ups and evening briefs, assisting members of the public, coordinating raids and special operations, conducting orderly room proceedings, and serving as orderly officers.

Applicants for this position must be Kenyan citizens with a valid national ID and no criminal record. 

They must hold a bachelor’s degree in any of the following fields or their equivalent from a recognised institutions: Wildlife Management, Environmental Management, Forestry, Tourism Management, Environmental Science, Botany and Zoology, Ecology, Counselling and Psychology, Animal Health, Criminology, Law, Risk and Disaster Management, Government and Public Administration or Human Resource Management. 

They must also possess a valid Certificate of Good Conduct. 

New applicants must be between 22 and 30 years old, while serving officers must hold the rank of Ranger or Corporal. Candidates must be physically and medically fit, have good hearing and clear vision, and meet the minimum height requirement of 5 feet 4 inches for men and 5 feet 2 inches for women.

Successful applicants will undergo paramilitary training for a period not less than nine months, fully sponsored by the Narok County Government.

Candidates who are successfully shortlisted will be notified through print media and are expected to report to Ole Ntimama Stadium on September 19, 2025, at 8am for the final phase of the interview.
