When The Gigs Dried Up

DJ Shiti explained that the comedy and entertainment industry is constantly changing. He noticed a shift in late 2022, with "less bookings, less calls," but insisted that he never stopped working. During this period, he said, he learned resilience and consistency.

“It wasn’t that gigs disappeared completely, but the momentum slowed down kidogo. The industry keeps evolving and sometimes you just find yourself in a season where things aren’t moving as fast,” he revealed.

“Around late 2022. I noticed a shift less bookings less calls but I stayed active kept creating,” Shiti added.

He noted that while the COVID-19 pandemic did shake up the live performance scene, it was not the main cause of his struggles. Instead, he simply adapted.

“COVID did shake things up, especially for live performers. But I adapted and kept pushing. That period just taught me resilience,” he stated.

A Helping Hand From Friends

Despite his consistent efforts, DJ Shiti's recent career resurgence was largely powered by collaborations with two of Kenya's biggest names in entertainment: singer Bien-Aimé Baraza from Sauti Sol and comedian Eddie Butita.

According to the comedian, the support from the two was a turning point.

"They believed in me and stepped in fully," he said. He credited their partnership with giving his career a much-needed push and a wider reach.

"They opened new doors—serious ones. Let’s just say it's been a very fruitful chapter."

The collaborations included skits with Bien and productions with Butita, projects that "created new buzz and drew attention from brands and fans alike."
