A 59-year-old Queensland man was removed from a flight at Perth Airport on July 14, after allegedly assaulting a member of the cabin crew.
Daily Mail reported that the incident occurred as the aircraft, scheduled to depart for Brisbane, was preparing for takeoff.
According to authorities, Sean Joseph Howland allegedly ignored repeated instructions to remain seated and attempted to access the toilet during pre-departure procedures.
It is alleged that Howland pushed the crew member, prompting a report to the flight captain, who requested officers to attend the gate.
Australian Federal Police responded to the tarmac and arrested him. Police claimed that he was uncooperative as he was arrested and removed from the plane.
A photo released this week showed Howland, dressed in business attire, seated in the back of a police van.
He has been charged with one count of assaulting an airline crew member and is expected to appear before the Perth Magistrates Court on Tuesday, July 29, 2025.
The offence carries a maximum penalty of 14 years in prison under Western Australian law.
“The AFP has a zero-tolerance policy when it comes to the assault or mistreatment of airline staff, and anyone who commits such an offence can be prosecuted,” AFP Inspector Peter Brindal said.
