Former Chief Justice David Maraga now says that Kenyans who are supporting him are building the change they need by themselves.
In a statement, Maraga said that it is their journey and that their contributions and support as volunteers are proof of the progress Kenyan politics has made over the years.
He noted that through their support, his people-driven campaign has continued to grow.
“You have already started to walk this journey with us in humble steps. Your continued contributions and volunteer sign-up on the website are a true statement to the evolution of Kenyan politics that Kenyans have for a long time demanded. You are building this change yourselves. This is your journey,” he said.
“For those who have and continue to sign up as volunteers, we shall soon be in touch with a comprehensive structure that allows for all your talents and abilities to contribute to building the future of your most courageous dreams.”
Maraga reiterated his commitment to transparency and accountability even as he seeks to become the sixth president.
“My commitment to you, as best as humanly possible, guided by integrity and constitutional fidelity, is that of complete transparency, accountability, and in the responsible handling of your resources, data, time and effort," he said.
The former Chief Justice informed his supporters that his team was working around the clock to ensure his newly launched campaign website has enhanced security features.
He called for patience as these changes are being implemented.
“Our technical team continues to strengthen our digital platform’s capacity and security. This will include the public ticker on all digital fundraising platforms. We ask that you please be patient with us as we get this running strong. As those in the digital technology practice will understand, this may sometimes require downtime for brief maintenance periods,” Maraga said.
He added that the team is also working to have on the website a system to collect and collate feedback on key items in his manifesto.
Maraga said this will make his manifesto a vision that is crafted by Kenyans.
“This is truly your journey, and the digital platforms we are rolling out will be bold infrastructure inspired by this young and courageous generation," he said.
“Our campaign reminds me that the Kenyan spirit is well and truly alive, and I am deeply honoured to share this part of it with all of you."
