Born on December 4, 1996, in Massarelos, Porto, Portugal, Jota carved out a career that took him from the quiet pitches of Paços de Ferreira to the roaring stands of Anfield, where he wore Liverpool red with distinction.
His sudden death in a car crash on July 3, 2025, just two weeks after his wedding, shocked fans, players, and the global football community.
Jota's rise through the ranks began at Paços de Ferreira, where his sharp instincts and goal-scoring touch quickly earned him a move to Atlético Madrid in 2016.

Although he never played a competitive match for the Spanish giants, it was during his loan spells—first at FC Porto, then Wolverhampton Wanderers—that his talent began to shine.
At Wolves, he became a fan favourite, scoring 44 goals across three seasons and helping the club gain and maintain Premier League status.
In September 2020, Jota made a high-profile move to Liverpool FC in a deal worth over £40 million.
Under manager Jürgen Klopp, he flourished in the team's attacking line-up.
His versatility allowed him to play anywhere across the front three, and he often stepped up in crucial moments, scoring game-changing goals.

Over his five years with Liverpool, Jota amassed 65 goals in 182 appearances, playing a significant role in the club's 2021–22 FA Cup win, two EFL Cup triumphs (2022 and 2024), and the crowning achievement—the Premier League title in 2024–25.
Internationally, Jota was equally impactful. Debuting for Portugal in 2019, he went on to earn 49 caps and score 14 goals.
He represented his country in multiple international tournaments and was part of the squads that won the UEFA Nations League in both 2019 and 2023.
Off the pitch, Jota was a devoted family man and a passionate gamer. He frequently streamed FIFA online, once climbing to the No. 1 spot on the global leaderboard.
He also founded his own esports team.
In June 2025, he married his longtime partner, Rute Cardoso, in an intimate ceremony in Portugal.

The couple shared three young children.
Tragedy struck on July 3, 2025, when Jota and his younger brother André Silva, also a footballer, were killed in a car accident in Zamora, Spain.
According to reports, their vehicle veered off the highway, rolled, and caught fire.
Emergency services arrived quickly, but both were pronounced dead at the scene.

The Portuguese Football Federation called the loss “irreparable.” Liverpool FC issued a heartfelt statement, mourning not just the death of a brilliant footballer but of a deeply admired teammate and friend.
Portugal's Prime Minister, Luís Montenegro, joined the chorus of tributes, calling it "a sad day for football and national sport."
