Legendary Kenyan musician Wahu Kagwi has opened up about various aspects of her personal life and career, including a glimpse into her very first job and the accompanying remuneration.

In a candid Quickfire session with Mpasho’s Kalondu Musyimi at the launch of Dairyland’s new drinking chocolate, Wahu Kagwi revealed that her very first job was as a producer and later as an usher.

When pressed about how much she earned at the time, she struggled to pinpoint the exact amount, suggesting either a very modest sum or a distant memory.

“My first job was as a producer but my very first job I worked as an usher. Per gig we were being paid about Sh3,000, I don’t remember the year but it was before the year 2000,” Wahu said as she tried to recall.

She revealed that the gig came during her university years, around the time when she contested for the Miss University of Nairobi.

“My gig was somewhere inside my campus life.”

This places her initial professional experience around her university years, where she notably majored in math.

While she admits this course did not directly help her career, she insights that "Math helps you develop your analytical brain", attributing her analytical and strategic thinking to her academic background.

More Personal Revelations from the Quickfire Beyond her professional beginnings, Wahu shared many other personal insights. Her childhood nickname was "Rosie," and she currently goes by "Mama girls".

Standing at "5'6 or 5'5", she proudly mentioned that her firstborn daughter is "much taller" than her, standing at 6 feet. Despite being asked her age, Wahu playfully responded, "18 till I die".

She also touched on emotional moments, admitting she cried "last week"  feeling sad due to PMS. When asked about lying, she emphatically declared that she rarely lies.
