Kenyan actress Jackie Matubia has offered a relatable glimpse into the complexities of balancing a demanding career with the joys and challenges of motherhood.

Her candid interview with Mpasho revealed a woman navigating the inherent contradictions of this dual role with grace and resilience.

"I'm a career woman and just like anyone else, just trying to maneuver and stay afloat economy," Matubia said.

Matubia said her dedication to her children is paramount, adding that she finds immense satisfaction in their happiness, emphasizing their emotional well-being as her top priority.

"I am always happy to see my children smile. You know they are my children, and seeing them smile makes me happy," she said.

"I want them to know that they are the best of what I have. I want to give them the best life possible. It is just nice to see your kids always smiling and happy," she added.

This prioritization underscores the importance of familial bonds and the profound impact a loving environment has on a child's development, she said.

"Seeing my children grateful, despite my busy schedule and who I am in society, gives me satisfaction," she said.

"They will never stand somewhere and say that mommy was not there for them. I have always been there," she added.

However, she acknowledges the impossibility of achieving a perfect work-life balance, a sentiment many mothers can relate to.

"When I'm winning in front of the camera, my children have slept without their mother telling them goodnight. I have to recover hours just to spend enough time with them," she said.

Instead of striving for an unattainable ideal, Matubia said she focuses on self-care, recognizing that her own well-being is intrinsically linked to her children's. "I will not lie to you.

Balancing is impossible. When you fail on one side, you win on the other. And that is part of being a mom as well as a career woman," she said.

"So, most of the time, even though I am winning, I'm also failing elsewhere. Yeah, that's the balance," she added.

She believes this self-awareness is crucial; a healthy and happy mother is better equipped to nurture her children.

Furthermore, Matubia said she fosters open communication within her family. By encouraging her children to express their feelings and navigate challenges independently, she empowers them and strengthens their familial bond.

She reckons this proactive approach acknowledges the children's individual needs and fosters a supportive environment.

Matubia said she embraces the imperfections inherent in motherhood, viewing struggles not as failures, but as opportunities for growth.

The support network she finds in other mothers reinforces the universality of these challenges, offering comfort and shared understanding.
