Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has vowed to remain firm in his duty as he dismissed calls for his removal from office.
Murkomen who was speaking during an interview with Meru journalists, explained that those particular individuals pushing for his dismissal had previously targeted him during his tenure in the Ministry of Transport, accusing him of incompetence.
“I wasn’t surprised, they didn’t even wait for me to complete three months in the sports ministry before shouting ‘Murkomen must go," he said.
“It is a small group of characters obsessed with me. I know what they’re up to, they are playing cheap politics that do not involve the rest of Kenyans. They are pushing an agenda from a particular corner,” he said.
He lamented that the particular critics often focused on trivial matters like his choice of shoes, shirts, and watches.
“The only thing they talk about me is which shoe, shirt, watch I wear as if I am the only one who wears that shoe, shirt, t-shirts and all those kinds of things.”
The CS also wondered why he alone seemed to be blamed for challenges in every ministry he has led, citing recent accusations about rising insecurity.
He said: “When you ask them from what number to what number, they say the way I feel it is just high just because it is Murkomen...yet in the real sense the statistics have dropped,” he said.
Murkomen emphasised his commitment to his role, declaring that he will remain steadfast in his duty and not be intimidated by anyone.
“Sometimes you feel discouraged, but then you remind yourself that I cannot fall prey to detractors,” he said, blaming a “cabal” that has followed him from ministry to ministry.
He called for a more objective conversation, reminding critics that he is no longer a political player.
“I want to tell those people to go slow. I’m no longer in politics. I work under the direction of President William Ruto. My duty is apolitical, and my focus is on fulfilling the objectives entrusted to me by the people of Kenya,” he stressed.
