Kenyan singer, songwriter, and performing artist Phyllis Waithira, alias Zoe, is making a bold and spirit-led return to the music industry.
With a sound rooted in hope, healing, and spiritual depth, Zoe has reintroduced herself to the world—this time with more passion, purpose, and power.
Zoe is a multi-talented artist known for her soulful vocals, poetic lyricism, and powerful stage presence.
A worship leader since the age of 10, Zoe began her professional music journey at 19 while studying Psychology at the University of Nairobi.

She quickly became a central figure in campus worship teams and choirs, shaping her into the inspiring performer she is today.
Having studied music in her high school years and earned top marks, Zoe blends her formal training with natural talent. Her unique sound fuses R&B, Zouk, and pure worship, often enriched with a touch of French and deeply personal storytelling.
Her songs reflect real-life experiences, offering hope and spiritual encouragement to listeners from all walks of life.
Now signed under Divine Melodies, a U.S.-based talent management company, Zoe has fully transitioned into a full-time musician.
This re-launch marks a new chapter, promising fresh music, deeper impact, and a continued commitment to sharing the message of Christ through music.

With a style that transcends age, gender, and genre, Zoe is ready to take her place as one of Kenya’s most promising and inspirational artists. Her music is not just a sound — it’s a movement, and she’s just getting started.
The talented singer is currently ruling the airwaves with a new song, “Nimesaidiwa,” and she spoke exclusively to Mpasho’s Dennis Milimo about the making of the song.
She also spoke about her comeback in the Kenyan gospel scene and how prepared she is to minister to the masses through her music.
Here is how the Q&A session went down
Zoe, what inspired your comeback into the Kenyan gospel scene, and why now?
My comeback was inspired by the realization that my journey in music and ministry wasn’t over. In that quiet season away, my management team, Divine Melodies, reached out and reminded me of the purpose God placed on my life and the lives my music had touched. Their support, along with what God was speaking to me in that season, reignited the fire within me. I knew it was time to return, not just to make music, but to encourage and heal and live out my purpose.

How has your journey outside the limelight shaped your music and message today?
Stepping away from the limelight was a necessary season for me. It gave me time to grow spiritually, heal, and reconnect with my purpose beyond public approval. In that quiet space, my message became clearer and more personal, shaped by real experiences and encounters with God. Coming back, I’m not chasing trends but focused on creating music that ministers deeply and carries God’s presence. It’s no longer about being seen, it’s about being obedient.
"The gospel scene in Kenya has evolved—what’s your take on its current state?
If you look back 10–15 years ago, the gospel industry was dominated by unapologetically faith-centered artists with songs that carried deep spiritual weight.
Fast-forward to now, on one side, you have a handful of sincere, grounded artists still pushing pure gospel on the other, there’s a blurred line between gospel and entertainment, with artists chasing trends, virality, and clout over content, with gospel becoming a label of convenience rather than conviction.
There’s also a growing movement of young ministers who are reviving authentic worship and contemporary gospel ministry through events, street worship, and powerful YouTube, Tiktok, and IG live sessions.
There’s a clear hunger for authentic, spirit-filled content again, and it's beautiful.
What can fans expect from your new sound or projects—any collaborations in the pipeline?
Fans can expect a more refined, authentic sound from me — music that’s honest, spiritual, relatable and deeply personal. This new season carries songs birthed from real experiences and moments with God. I’m also exploring fresh, contemporary sounds while staying true to my message. Yes, there are a few exciting collaborations lined up with both upcoming and seasoned gospel artists. It’s going to be a beautiful blend of ministry and creativity.

How do you balance staying true to your faith while navigating the modern music industry?
For me, staying true to my faith in the modern music industry means always remembering that music is ministry before it’s a career. It’s my way of partnering with God to bring hope, healing, and truth to people’s lives.
The industry can be tempting and noisy, but I stay grounded through prayer, spiritual accountability, and surrounding myself with people who remind me of my purpose.
I’ve learned that not every open door is meant for me, and it’s okay to turn down opportunities that don’t align with my values. In the end, what matters most is knowing that my music honors God and impacts lives beyond the spotlight. I can use modern styles as a tool, but remain true to the message and call.
What was the inspiration behind your new Song “Nimesaidiwa”?
I wanted the song NIMESAIDIWA to be a personal and collective testimony. Many times, we go through silent battles, hidden struggles, and moments where only the hand of God could lift us. Including that spoken declaration is a reminder that beyond talent, connections, or human help, it’s God’s hand that sustains, lifts, and settles us. It gives the song a personal touch and allows people to connect it with their own stories of divine help.
What do you want to achieve with this song?
With this song, I wanted to give hope to anyone feeling stuck, forgotten, or overwhelmed by life’s challenges.
It’s a reminder that no situation is too hard for God, and just like He’s helped me, He will come through for them too. I wanted people to feel seen, encouraged, and reminded that the hand of God is never too short to save or lift them.
Even when it looks impossible, help is on the way. This song carries that message of hope, faith, and divine intervention
