CORRIDORS OF POWER

AN ‘EXPERT’ IN Cabinet reportedly could not hide his joy after he survived the recent mini-reshuffle that cost his colleague his seat.

Before the changes, the rumour mills had it the man, who is months in office, was on the chopping board.

In fact, sources from the centre of power had even purportedly started calling him “ambassador”, as he was tipped to be spirited away to a West African diplomatic outpost.

THE INCREASING CASES of Kenyans getting caught with narcotics upon arrival abroad is turning the spotlight on due process back home.

In most of the cases, the arrested Kenyans were travelling from Nairobi, putting into question the vetting systems at the port of exit.

The man, who likes to read about himself in the papers and watch himself on TV, is purportedly suddenly unavailable to his drinking buddies and media contacts, even though, usually, it is he who supposedly pesters scribes for sound bites.

Nitpickers around him claim the man reportedly stepped on powerful toes on personal matters and may have been served a stern warning.

They claim he has likely taken time to ponder over how to move on from the staggering private rebuke.

IS THE OUTRAGE of social media users, famously called the Gen Z, against the political class objective and genuine, or is it reserved for one side of the political isle?

That is the question on the lips of some observers, who claim the emerging patterns suggest bias and fake consciousness.

Take for example the recent barnstorming of Mt Kenya region by President William Ruto and his entourage.

While sizeable crowds embraced him, including top politicians decamping to his side, the “woke” lot online and media talk shops did not bash them and call them names.

Compare that to the epithets and harsh condemnation reserved for politicians from a known party and regions after they warmed up to the regime.
