State commits to support Jua Kali artisans own affordable houses

The government through Affordable Housing Board has committed to support the Jua Kali sector in owning homes under the programme.

While speaking at a consultative session in Nairobi, the Affordable Housing Board chairperson Jeremiah Simu said they will conduct sensitisation campaigns across the country to woo more Jua Kali artisans to express their interest of owning houses through their associations' leadership.

"We are committed to supporting the sector in acquiring homes under the Affordable

"Our goal is to reach out to the public, including the informal sector, in response to their call for homeownership opportunities.”

Speaking during the meeting, the Kenya National Federation of Jua Kali Associations CEO Richard Muteti acknowledged the invitation by Affordable Housing

He emphasised that the collaboration moving forward is designed to educate members of the sector on housing opportunities and how they can begin their journey towards home ownership.

"I'm here to honour the chairperson's call after he reached out to actualise the dream of home ownership for the informal sector, which Jua Kali is part of,” he said.

“Beyond being stakeholders contributing to the Affordable Housing Programme, we are also actively involved in developing and constructing the houses through our various skilled manpower.”

He said this is why they are committed to ensure significant support for the initiative.

“I will inform my members so they can become homeowners. We have successfully referenced the programme, and now we need to ensure more people take advantage of it,” he said.
