President William Ruto has vowed to do everything within his power to ensure former Prime Minister Raila Odinga is respected.
Ruto stated that all peers, juniors and seniors should acknowledge Raila's contributions that span across generations.
He spoke during the signing of the UDA-ODM framework agreement at KICC on Friday.
The President at the same time reminisced about his time at the ODM party.
He noted how Raila's influence in Kenya has ultimately shaped the political arena.
"Several months after the elections, I told him he has been my party leader, I'd want him to be treated well. I will do whatever it takes to make sure you have respect in Kenya. I am not doing this for any selfish reasons, it is because you're my senior and your contributions deserve respect," he said.
“My brother Raila Odinga, history is going to judge you fairly for what you have done for this nation."
Moments after the two leaders signed the deal, Ruto stated that the agreement marked how individuals could put the nation's interests above their own.
"This arrangement is not about sharing positions or winning elections, it is about Kenyans' interests. It's time we close ranks as a country," the President stated.
"We haven't made the steps and decisions that would make this country great because we have been making politically correct decisions."
Ruto further expressed optimism in the collaboration of adopting the Nadco report to help address some of the national issues facing the country.
“We commit to implementing the Nadco report to address key national issues, including the cost of living, youth unemployment, and gender inclusion,” he stated.
