A Glimpse into Janet Mbugua’s Career and Background
Janet began her career at 98.4 Capital FM at the age of 19, marking the beginning of what would be a highly impactful journey in the media industry.
Janet’s career took a significant turn in 2009 when she was hired by e.tv in Johannesburg, South Africa, as a news anchor, reporter, and producer for the Pan-African current affairs show Africa 360.
Janet’s time at Citizen TV solidified her status as one of Kenya's top news anchors. She co-hosted prime-time news with Hussein Mohammed, a role that earned her a dedicated following.
Despite her success in journalism, Janet made the surprising decision to announce her retirement from media in 2017.
She took on a leadership role at the Kenya Red Cross Humanitarian Society and began consulting for The Hive, an organization focused on amplifying gender equality messaging across Africa.
Janet also explored the world of acting starring in the hit TV series Rush, where she played Pendo Adama, the owner and editor-in-chief of Rush Magazine.

Humanitarian Work and Advocacy for Social Change
Beyond her media career, Janet is deeply involved in humanitarian work. She founded and directs Media Avenue Limited, an organization that offers services such as public speaking, moderating, and emceeing.
She is also passionate about empowering young women, evidenced by her advocacy for the Inua Dada campaign, which focuses on improving the lives of young females in Kenya.
The campaign has received endorsement from Kenya’s First Lady, Margaret Kenyatta.
In 2021, Janet launched The Inua Dada Centre in the Korogocho slum, Nairobi. This center serves as a space for young women to access information and resources related to reproductive health and rights.
